588 "I must have flowers, always, and always." Claude Monet In this post, I take a closer look at a pleasant landscape painting named The Poppy Field by Claude Monet. It depicts four people (probably including Monet's wife and son) strolling through a poppy field at Argenteuil, Paris.

Poppy Field is an 1890 painting by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh, painted around a month before his death during his stay in Auvers-sur-Oise, France. It has been described as "a composition that verges on the abstract" and shows marked difference from a 1888 painting of the same subject that now is in the Van Gogh Museum, in Amsterdam. Spending many years in Germany, the painting now hangs.

If you compare the two paintings, it is almost as if Cassatt has taken the Monet work, rotated it horizontally, and then implemented her our preferred method of portraying young children.

Tulips, pansies, iris, and doronicum are some of the main plants. Accompanied by Aubrietas, Forget-me-nots, Crocus, and Viola cornuta. Monet's paintings show large groups of one color that sings during its time of bloom. Blue-purple iris has its day in the sunny late spring.
